Pet Peeve #892742

People who screen cap a show five minutes after it’s been on.

Thanks, guys… I didn’t want to see it anyway.

(I’m looking at you, Community people.)

22 days until a new episode of Community

communitythings:

Sweet! Also love that this is screen-capped from Citytv. Go Toronto!

Dan Harmon: First season is very different from second season in one fundamental regard, which is that first season I did not know how to work with anybody. I did this weird Howard Hughes thing in my pyjamas at home where I would re-write every episode for two days and people would be calling and going: “Well, we need the thing.” and I’d go: “Yeah, well, why don’t you shoot the one you got! You wanna bad TV show so much, shoot the script you got! I’ll see you at the finish line, motherfucker! — Show me all the blueprints!“
It occurred to me finishing a season like that, that I was thirty seven and not twelve, and that we were spending a lot of money on a bunch of really talented people that were there to help me. … I dragged these poor ten people into that horrible dark process … I’ve never had that intimate of a relationship with a group of people because I’m a bad, bad, bad person. This season, if you like it more than the first season, you like it because of our writers and I just wanted to acknowledge that. Our writing staff is the best writing staff in the world.

Interesting. I liked the first season the best, but there was interesting stuff in the second season for sure, and it was still hilarious.

My question is why the third season (so far) felt more uneven and less hilarious. Seems to be missing some edge to me, even if I still love it.

Megan — Did you pick the Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice) reference up as a fan of Season 1 and help carry it through to its conclusion? Harmon seems to credit you for that particular slowburning joke.
Megan Ganz: We had the word “Beetlejuice” in #304, originally, (in the little speech the security guard gives Chang about the thing, the arm thing, the parking lot thing, with the stripes…) and one morning I realized that was the second time we had used that word. We also used it in the Bottle Episode. So I came in and jokingly warned Dan during our morning meeting, that the show had said Beetlejuice twice and we had better be careful. Then he out-nerded me by remembering that it was said once in first season (by Prof. Slater). We had the idea to take it out of 304 and put it in the Halloween episode, so we could have him make an appearance.

Perhaps not as impressive as planning it for three years, but come on. Have you ever heard a writing staff more nerdy about their own show?

This makes me crazy happy. I love, love, love the incredible writers on Community. The “Remedial Chaos Theory” episode alone gives me a warm, nerdy feeling.
