With deference to the genius of David Bowie, here’s Space Oddity, recorded on Station. A last glimpse of the World.

Huge thanks in the making of the video to the talented trio of Emm Gryner, Joe Corcoran and Andrew Tidby, plus Evan Hadfield and all at the CSA.

Further proof that Canada rocks. Love everything about this.

ANDREW POWELL
Who are you? W. Andrew Powell — writer, photographer, and geek.
What do you do? Career Highlights? I’m an entertainment junkie—I write about music, film, television, and gadgets. I’ve been running The GATE, an online entertainment magazine, for over 10 years now, which is a highlight unto itself. Surviving ten years of covering NXNE, CMW, and TIFF has to be another one. Number one with a bullet though is the fact that I love talking to passionate people who love what they do.
What makes a good video? What stood out about your picks? There is no single thing that defines a great video—it just takes passion, vision, and clever storytelling. My choices jumped out at me on the very first viewing, and they elevated the songs. Most of all though, I think the videos I picked worked so well because they offered a fresh perspective.

Yep, that’s me. I’m a judge for a new award—the Prism Awards—recognizing Canadian music videos. Finalists will be announced next week.

I have nothing against Adele, but why was her boring song made for Skyfall when Muse made “Supremacy”, which is clearly the best James Bond song in years?

If you haven’t heard “Supremacy” yet, check out this live version from the iTunes Festival.

Julie Fowlis - “Touch the Sky”

‘Brave’ may not have been a musical proper, but it used soundtrack in certain places that evoked classic Disney. What you’re picturing in your head for this song is exactly how it was shown in the movie. Merida could have opened her mouth to sing it (instead of it just playing in the background) and I wouldn’t have been surprised.

Absolutely loved the music in Brave. Wonderful stuff. The Scottish accent gives me chills.

Gordie Sampson - “Sunburn”

Stumbled on this song again today and instantly became re-addicted to it.

Sadness is hunting for a song you know you’ll never find. Really want to find “Can’t Stop Losing Myself” by the Dirt Clods.

The Empire Records soundtrack is good, but the song in the movie otherwise are still kind of beyond amazing.

Kickass Cover Mashup of the Day: Luc Bergeron AKA Zapatou mashes up 71  covers of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” from all around the world.

A full list of links to the original covers can be found in the video’s description.

(As you’re watching this and enjoying yourself keep in mind that this is the exact sort of thing that PIPA and SOPA seek to prohibit. Politicians are backpeddling in droves, but the fight continues. Take action now.)

Love this, but I have to say, the best “Rolling In The Deep” cover I’ve ever heard has to be this one Vazquez Sounds:
